City in Bloom 2017        Clean and green for seventeen


Friends of City Gardens have organised City in Bloom on behalf of the City's Gardens team since 2014, growing the competition from 15 entries to over 130. CiB brings together the wide community of gardeners in the City to celebrate and promote biodiversity, horticultural expertise, excellence of design and careful maintenance. City in Bloom also provides the lead for the RHS campaign, Greening Grey Britain in the Square Mile and is the foundation of the City's success in the Royal Horticultural Society’s national competition, Britain in Bloom.


City in Bloom 2017 - the Air Quality Challenge Clean and green for seventeen


The 2017 Challenge asks you to make a difference to your local street by designing and installing a planting scheme that will:

The Challenge is free to enter. The installation can be as small or expansive as you wish - a window box, planter, raised bed, green wall or front garden. It can be as cheap and cheerful or as glitzy and glamorous as you like. It should be eye-catching, informative and include plants that help improve air quality.


All the entries will be professionally photographed andentrants will receive a photo book of all the entries.


Contact us by 31 March to express an interest in entering the Challenge and complete your planting by 1st June. Your entry will be photographed during June and the photo book will be sent to all entrants in the autumn. Resources to help you design and build your entry can be down loaded below and volunteers are on hand to provide advice and team you up with other individuals or community groups if you want to work in partnership with others.
