City in Bloom 2016
Every summer volunteers nominate their favourite green spaces. These entries are judged by another team of FoCG volunteers, City gardens staff and other horticultural and biodiversity experts. The competition culminates in an Award Ceremony held in the early autumn.
Look out for our signature yellow wheelbarrows in gardens across the City.
City in Bloom 2016
2016 has been another brilliant year for City in Bloom. We were delighted to welcome J. B. Riney and Co. Ltd. as our sponsor this year. The competition opened on 1st May and over 130 entries have been received from residents, City businesses and institutions, schools and community groups.
CiB brings together the wide community of gardeners in the City to celebrate and promote biodiversity, horticultural expertise, excellence of design and careful maintenance. We reward best practice, community and staff involvement and accessibility. CiB is above all fun; our volunteers love meeting all the entrants and delight in the infinite variety of our wonderful green spaces.
All entries receive detailed feedback from our judges and shortlisted entrants have the opportunity to meet each other at the Award Ceremony on 12th September to be held in the Roman Amphitheatre and newly refurbished City Centre.
City in Bloom
City in Bloom is the annual celebration of all the amazing green spaces in the Square Mile from hanging baskets to courtyard gardens, from green roofs to balcony planters, from hanging baskets to roof top kitchen gardens. It is organised by Friends of City Gardens on behalf of the City of London, City Gardens team. City in Bloom provides the lead for the RHS campaign, ‘Greening Grey Britain’ in the Square Mile and is the foundation of the City's success in the Royal Horticultural Society’s national competition, Britain in Bloom.
